Benefits of Apricot Kernel Oil

Apricot Kernel Oil

Prunus Armeniaca is the scientific name for the small yellowish-orange fruit, which we know as apricot. An apricot has a pit inside it which contains a kernel. Apricot kernel oil is extracted by pressing this kernel. It is pure and natural and has many skin care and hair care properties. Here are some of its benefits, for the skin as well as the hair.
Apricot kernel oil is rich in vitamins, is an excellent moisturizer, and nourishes both the skin and hair. www.buzzle.com

Benefits

Makes the Hair Healthy
It helps in making the hair soft and shiny. It moisturizes and nourishes the hair root as well as the hair. Regular application of organic apricot kernel oil is known to promote hair growth too.

Nourishes the Skin
Apricot kernel oil contains ingredients such as essential fatty acids, linoleic acid, and oleic acid. It is rich in vitamins too, especially, vitamin E and vitamin A. All these ingredients make the oil, an excellent skin moisturizer. Regular application of this oil can make the skin smooth and supple. Dry skin, mature skin and skin which is irritated because of excessive sun exposure, can be treated by applying apricot kernel oil directly or using products such as lotions, balms and cream, which have this as an ingredient.

Soothes Irritated Skin
Apricot kernel oil is a natural oil and hence, is very mild. Because of the presence of linoleic acid and oleic acid, it has anti-inflammation properties too. Thus, it is extremely beneficial for an acne-prone and sensitive skin, as it can be soothed by its regular application. To treat acne, make a mixture of apricot oil, lavender oil and tea-tree oil and apply it on the acne-affected area.

How to Use:

For the Hair
First of all, you will have to heat the oil. Make sure that it is not too hot, otherwise it can burn your scalp. Next, take a small quantity in your palm and using your fingertips, massage the hot oil, gently into your hair and scalp. Continue massaging for about ten minutes. Leave the oil on the hair overnight and wash with shampoo in the morning.

A simpler method to use this oil for hair is to add a few drops of the oil in your conditioner and then apply it on your head, post shampooing. If you have dry, frizzy hair, this will make your hair shiny and easy to manage.

For the Skin
To moisturize your skin, you can take a small amount of the oil in your palm, and apply it to your face gently. If you want to use it as a massage oil, you can add other ingredients such as almond oil and olive oil to it and then massage your face with it. Apricot kernel oil will help in proper absorption of the oils in the skin and thus, make it healthy. You can also add a few drops of the oil to your bath, it will sooth the skin on your entire body, and also relax you.

As you can see, apricot kernel oil has great utility, and keeps our skin and hair in good shape. Simply rubbing the oil on your body as well as hair, is enough to get a healthy glow.

Benefits of Macadamia Nut Oil....

Macadamia Nut Oil

The nut’s oil is nutritious — a great source of calcium, B complex, phosphorus and iron. It has a shelf life of almost a year and contains 73-80% mono-saturated fat. Macadamia nut oil contains the highest amount of palmitoleic acid (an Omega 7 fatty acid) of any plant. Palmitoleic acid is plentiful in our skin when we are young, but decreases with aging. This acid is believed to help mature skin retain suppleness. Palmitoleic acid also replaces naturally occurring skin on the lips, allowing the skin to remain younger looking.(www.naturallycurly.com)

Using Macadamia Nut Oil For Hair

Macadamia nut oil, contrary to the floating myth, does not make the hair or scalp greasy. In fact, this oil gets readily absorbed into the hair follicles and scalp, thereby leaving no scope for greasiness to develop on the scalp. To test how readily macadamia oil gets absorbed, just take some in the palm of your hand and rub it in between your palm. Within 5 minutes you will find the oil seeping into the underlying layers of your skin. Moreover, if you apply it and go to bed, you will find absolutely no signs of macadamia oil on the pillow case. Some even describe the oil absorption as 'magic'. They say the oil simply vanishes into the hair.

Macadamia nuts contain a type of omega-7 monounsaturated fat called palmitoleic acid, which is a main constituent in the sebum produced by our hair follicles. However, as one ages, the natural sebum levels begin to deplete. Since the palmitoleic acid in macadamia nut oil bears semblance to sebum, it gets absorbed into the scalp really quickly. It then replenishes the hair follicles with the required palmitoleic acid content, thereby rejuvenating the hair.

Thus, this oil is also touted for its synergy with the capillary sebum, thereby increasing the strength of the hair strand right from the root. It is capable of moisturizing and strengthening rough, dry, frizzy and limp hair. This is because unlike coconut oil which penetrates the scalp, this oil coats the hair follicles and scalp, thereby preventing loss of moisture.

How to Apply
Take some macadamia oil and warm it. Spread the oil evenly with your hand and massage your scalp. Gently comb your hair and allow the oil to work its way into your hair and scalp. Since this oil works well on split ends, take some oil and rub it onto the tips of the hair strands
Some even add a little macadamia oil as a leave in after shampooing, if they find their hair still a little dry. The sheen the hair attains from the oil is simply fantastic(www.buzzle.com)

Color Treatment / Hair Dye
Macadamia nut oil is also beneficial during color treatments. Before carrying out a color treatment, apply some macadamia oil onto the scalp and hair. Then apply the color. The oil will help the color absorb well and will also enhance the sheen and color effect after the treatment. (www.buzzle.com)

The Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil

The first evidence of the use of sweet almond oil to promote hair growth comes from ancient Egypt. Almond oil was routinely mixed with castor oil to improve upon the castor's texture and smell. The mixture was then applied to the scalp through massage and left on for a specific amount of time. This mixture was said to grow hair faster and cure baldness.

ABOUT SWEET ALMOND OIL
Sweet almond is a carrier oil that is extracted from the sweet almond nut. It has a pale yellow color and has a high percentage of Vitamin A, B1, B2, and B6. It has mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids that are also essential for the body to function. It also contains Vitamin E, which nourishes the skin.

BENEFITS FOR THE HAIR & SKIN
Treating the hair and scalp to sweet almond oil benefits follicles, prevents hair loss, provides shine, and strengthens hair. Other benefits for the hair include:

  • Preventing itchiness and dry scalp

This is one of the most used carrier oils in aromatherapy massage, which is understandable since it has a fine texture, is easily absorbed, and helps to leave the skin soft and satiny smooth yet it is non-greasy and easily absorbed. As it is a mild oil, sweet almond oil is suitable for all skin types and helps relieve irritation, inflammation and itching. Benefits for the skin include:

A FEW TIPS...
For a Hot Oil Treatment, mix equal parts of the sweet almond and castor oils and applying it to the scalp. This can provide the help that some desire for hair growth. Massage the oil into the scalp and leave on for 15 minutes. Wash the hair with a mild shampoo and towel dry.

For a Deep Treatment, mix 4-10 drops of coconut oil with 1oz of sweet almond oil and one egg yolk. Mix well and add warm water (not too hot to avoid cooking the egg yolk). Wash your hair thoroughly and apply to a the scalp and hair while the hair is still wet. Leave on the hair for at least 15 minutes and then rinse. (You may shampoo again if you wish, but it is not necessary.)

How Coconut oil Benefits the Hair

Coconut oil is a very unique hair oil. This versatile, low molecular weight oil is able to leverage its traditional oil status to seal the hair, but complements this sealing capacity with a strong affinity for hair proteins not found in other hair oils. Because moisturization and hydration are characteristics of water, coconut oil cannot rightfully be called a moisturizer in and of itself. It does however greatly support the moisturization of the hair fiber in ways that other oils cannot and have fallen short.

Coconut oil benefits black hair in two important ways. First, coconut oil‘s hydrophobic oil characteristics allow it to inhibit the penetration of water from the surrounding air and environment. Second, coconut oil is able to bind to the natural protein structure of the hair. This helps the hair retain its natural moisture content and reinforces the hair fiber, making it stronger. (blackgirllonghair.com/)

Coconut Oil as a Sealant

Rele and Mohile, scientists at Marico Industries, found that while wet hair is able to absorb trace amounts of coconut oil residue into the hair fiber, coconut oil is only able to act on the surface of dried hair with no penetration into the hair fiber. In its sealant capacity, coconut oil acts as other oils. It simply coats and conditions the outer cuticle layer enhancing shine and increasing the hair fiber’s pliability. It also reduces friction and static electricity between the hair fibers.(blackgirllonghair.com)

Coconut Oil as Protein and Moisture Support

The Marico Industries researchers also found that using coconut oil as pre-shampoo treatment is better than using it post-wash. This is partly owing to the fact that coconut oil only seems to penetrate wet hair fibers. The constant swelling and shrinking of the hair fiber in response to typical washing, conditioning, and drying stresses the hair. According to Rele and Mohile, when coconut oil is used on the hair as a pre-treatment, a small portion of coconut oil is absorbed into the hair fiber when the fiber naturally swells.
Black hair, which is more susceptible to damage and high porosity problems, tends to take in more water during the washing process. This causes it to swell considerably more than normal, healthy hair when wet. The hair must then shrink back to normal size during drying, but the cuticle can fray, split, or crack as this happens. Damage may be especially pronounced when the hair cuticle is contracting from a state of intense swelling as in porous hair. Coconut oil helps reduce this water uptake and swelling by binding to the proteins and keeping excess water out. This results in less trauma to the hair fiber as it naturally contracts to dry. (blackgirllonghair.com)

To Sum it Up....

  • Hair shafts ABSORB the Coconut Oil, which PROTECTS and adds BODY, making hair THICKER!
  • Coconut Oil helps hair retain more MOISTURE and PROTEINS, meaning STRONGER, SILKIER, SHINIER hair!
  • The ANTIBACTERIAL properties of Coconut Oil increase scalp protection against itchy and weakening infections, helping hair stay HEALTHY and DANDRUFF-FREE!
  • The MOISTURISING effect prevents build-up of dry skin on the scalp (another cause of dandruff).
  • VITAMINS found in Coconut Oil (E and K) NOURISH and add LUSTRE, boosting hair and scalp health.
  • For the BEST results apply to dry hair, then wet. Makes for a PERFECT prepoo/hot oil treatment.
