The Benefits of Hazelnut Oil

Hazelnut Oil

Hazelnut oil is an excellent carrier oil made from roasted and cold pressed hazelnuts, which are often referred to as filbert nut and cobnut. Hazelnut oil is cold pressed from the nuts of Corylus avellana. Very similar to Sweet Almond Oil, in chemical composition and stability, though the absorption of Hazelnut is far superior, absorbing very quickly, and completely. Usually this oil is pale yellow in color. Hazelnut oil is rich in many important minerals, such as calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus, and contains high levels of vitamin E. Its fine texture is easily absorbed by the skin and hair, so the oil is able to penetrate deeply and aid with a variety of cosmetic issues without clogging the pores or making the hair greasy.

 Benefits on the Skin

Hazelnut oil is light in texture, which makes it a good moisturizer for individuals with oily skin. The oil is rich in fatty acids, making it emollient and effective in treating dry, dehydrated skin. It is also slightly astringent, so it helps tighten the pores and limit oil production. As a result, hazelnut oil can even be used on acne-prone skin without fear of causing further breakouts.

Benefits on the Hair

Because hazelnut oil helps filter the rays of the sun, it can be used to help maintain hair color after a dye job. The high vitamin E levels in hazelnut oil also help prevent hair color from being oxidized, so it does not lose its color or take on a brassy cast as quickly.
It may be applied to dry hair and worked through the strands so the vitamin E is absorbed by the hair cortex. The oil should be left on for several hours, though overnight under a shower cap may provide an intensive treatment for dry hair. Rinse the hazelnut oil out with regular shampoo, and your hair color will be protected when you go out in the sun. (www.ehow.com)
Hazelnut Oil makes a great hot oil treatment for dry hair, leaving if soft, conditioned, and more manageable.

How to Use

Comb a bit of hazelnut oil through dry or frizzy hair to help tame and moisturize your locks, especially in winter or on humid days.

Color Protection for Hair

Regular washing the color tends to fade quicker while making the hair dull and rough. To retain your hair color for longer duration, apply hazelnut oil to your hair before shampooing. This is also a good way to strengthen the hair as the oil contains good amounts of vitamin E. (unzipmymedia.wordpress.com)
